This 1986 Bertone X1/9 features a 1500cc Bosch FI engine, 5-Speed manual transmission, and is a non-AC version.   

Comprehensive mechanical preventative maintenances have been performed by Midwest-Bayless.

This car is in the possession of Midwest-Bayless and is being sold on consignment for the Missouri owner.  Missouri title without liens.

It has had four unique owners in its history.  CARFAX details to 2004 are available.

The X1/9 model was produced by Fiat from model years 1973 to 1982, and by Bertone, the car’s coachbuilder, for an additional five years, from 1983-88.

The Bertone X1/9 features many improvements over the original FIAT version, including extra headroom due to a lower seating position, 140mph speedometer, improved cabin controls and lighting,  dual side view mirrors, standard issue power windows.

North America version X1/9 cars from 1981-on received Bosch electronic fuel injection and Bosch electronic ignition systems standard, while all other world market versions of the X1/9 through 1988 were fitted with a 2-barrel carburetor and points/condenser ignitions.

Most of the Bertone era cars were two-toned, and monochrome versions are the exception, with acrylic enamel finish Nero (code 231.551 or 601/F).

Body and Exterior

The body is extremely straight, ding free, and does not have collision damage or rust of any sort.

Bertone center and side badges have crisp color.

Front and rear bumper trims are straight and unwarped.  OEM rubber seals for doors and front / rear trunks.

Engine cover is excellent with minor original points of age.  Lights and lenses are clear.  OEM wing.

Floorpans are rust and damage free.   Undercarriage has original and aftermarket undercoating.

Engine, Fuel, Ignition, Exhaust and Cooling System:

1500cc engine SOHC engine with Bosch L-Jet fuel injection.    Non-AC architecture offers a simplified engine bay and easier preventative maintenances.

The 1500cc motor runs and drives great, with no issues.  All preventative maintenances required for a 37 year old vehicle have been performed.   Stainless expansion tank, aftermarket aluminum radiator and new rear hoses offers rock-solid temperatures.  Cooling fan activates as normal.

Original exhaust catalyst system in place and is 50 state emissions compliant.

Timing belt and V-belt has been replaced, valve lash adjusted. 

The fuel injection system has had all fuel lines replaced with ethanol compliant Gates hose and filter.  Injectors fitted with new O-ring seals.

Bosch electronic Ignition system has received new cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

Electricals

Electrical system is in great shape, with good voltages.  The car has had ancillary relay systems added for Wipers, Power Window, and Headlights.   New battery. 

All accessories and lights work as expected. Headlights pop up and down as expected, all cabin switches work as expected.   Power windows operate quickly and smoothly.

Headlights and all indicators operate as expected.

Aftermarket stereo with two speakers, and original digital clock.

 Transmission / Clutch / Driveline

The 5-Spd manual transmission is in excellent condition, and shifts flawlessly up and down with no synchronizer issues.   No leaks.   Rear transmission mount, drive shafts, CV joints are all in good condition.   

Clutch master, slave and hose hydraulics were replaced and pedal box reconditioned.  NO SQUEAKS!

Steering / Suspension / Tires / Wheels / Brakes

New KYB struts, upper strut mounts, and forward radius rod bushings.   All ball joints, tie-rod ends, are in good condition with no issues.  Wheel bearings are solid with no hum or play.

Braking system has been fully serviced with new master cylinder, braided stainless flex hoses, fluid feed hoses, pads, rotors, and front calipers.  Fully bled.  Fluid reservoirs are excellent and crack-free.  They are extremely effective in stock format.

The original factory "TRON" style alloy wheels have been replaced with excellent condition Speedline CD-16 "Iron Cross" style 13x5.5 wheels with correct Bertone center caps,  and low miles Falken 185/60-13 tires.   

This car drives and tracks straight, and is vibration / rattle-free.

Interior / Top

The OEM interior is one of the nicer one's we’ve seen.  

It is excellent color to the seats and doorcards, dashboard is uncracked.  Carpet is unworn with good color.

Door cards are straight and free of water damage or stains.

Courtesy lights are clean and uncracked.

Seatbelts are original and in correct working order.

Black dashboard is un-cracked and glove box door is unbroken, and hinges work as expected! 

Heater blower fan operates in all speeds, heater valve and fresh air flap controls work smoothly.  Heater blows HOT!  Handbrake works correctly.

Original spare wheel with replacement tire.

Targa top is in very good condition and does not have chipped corners.  It has factory black headliner.   New side rubber seals for door glass.

Front and Rear Trunks

Front trunk is clean with all panels and reservoirs in place.   Washer fluid bottle is uncracked.   Brake and clutch fluid reservoirs are clean.

The relay assist packages for headlights, wipers, and windows are visible.  These are plug-in assemblies, and the car's original wiring harness is un-modified as a result.

Rear trunk contains the original jack and tool kit on right side.

Lower trunk pockets are rust free.   Engine bay blower works as expected with lower temp activation switch.
