This car is Michigan titled, by a client of Midwest-Bayless and will be an individual (not dealer) transaction.   Midwest-Bayless will act as the seller's agent.  

This car shows 33K on the odometer, but is less than 1000 miles after a full restoration by Midwest-Bayless.



The simple and easy-to-maintain 1500cc carbureted platform runs great. The fully refurbished rust-free chassis rides comfortably around town or on the highway. 

It takes an enormous amount of time, effort and money to restore a worn-out X1/9 to this level.

Body and Exterior
The body was stripped and an all over color change paint to Mica Red was performed. 

It is straight, with no collision damage and ZERO structural or cosmetic rust.

This car is razor straight with only one or two very minor dings and a couple of minor stone chips in the nose.

All of the plastic trims and stainless bright work are in great condition.  All lights and lenses are clear, unblemished.  Lights are fully operational, up and down as expected. 

New windshield and original side/rear glass with no issues or blemishes.

  One look at the condition of the vertical panels in the front trunk and rear trunk pockets tells you all you need to know about the condition of the chassis. 



Engine, Fuel, Ignition, Exhaust and Cooling System:
1500cc SOHC engine w/Weber 34 series carburetor. 

The engine was completely rebuilt by Midwest-Bayless.  Stock spec bottom end and cam.

Fitted with the largest drop-on Weber carb, the highly desirable 34 DATR.  Converted to electric choke.  Bosch electronic ignition w/MSD coil.  Correctly timed and tuned.  

Sport exhaust is "just right" not too loud or obnoxious.   Durable 4-2 cast-iron manifold to a 2-1 downpipe.   Does not have a catalytic converter.

The engine bay is clean and uncluttered, with no provision for EGR or pollution control equipment.


The cooling system offers rock-solid temperatures and the fan works correctly.  Stainless steel expansion tank.  Radiator fins are rust free and fans work correctly. 

Climate Control 

A heater-only system (non-AC) makes for a simplified engine bay.   Heater box completely refurbished with cleaned core and new valve.  All levers and flaps work correctly. Fan is operational at all speeds.  


This car has been retrofit with a complete wiring harness and ATC blade-style fuse panel from a 1986 Bertone X1/9, including the console push-button switches.

Circuits in great shape, with good voltages, even with wipers, lights and heater fan on.   Fresh ignition switch.  Headlight relay mod.  H4 headlights.   All accessories and lights work.  All cabin switches, gauges, fans, horns and clock work as expected.

Transmission / Clutch / Driveline
 New clutch pack, release bearing, clutch master/slave cylinder and flex hose.

The 5-Spd manual transmission is in above average condition. It shifts smoothly up and down with no reverse issues and no leaks.

Steering / Suspension / Tires / Wheels / Brakes
 KYB struts at all four corners with sport lowering springs.   New ball joints, tie-rod ends, and control arm bushings at all four corners.  Front sway bar.

Completely rebuilt carriers with new wheel bearings and seals at all four corners.

Braking system completely refurbished, including new calipers front and rear, master cylinder, brake pads and rotors, including drilled rotors on the front. 

Brand new Panasport 14"x6 wheels with new, zero miles Yokohama S-drive 185 series tires.

This car drives straight, tracks true. 

Interior / Top
Clean black interior including uncracked dashboard!  

 Black vinyl factory issue door cards with gray carpet insets. 

  Super comfortable, dark grey cloth upholstered seats.  Nice and cool and won't burn your legs on a hot day with the top off.      

Black aftermarket carpet.

 Targa top without headliner, is a bit lighter and easier to stow in and out of front trunk than ones with factory headliner.

Front  /Rear Trunk
Car has been fitted with a factory issue molded front trunk carpet and battery cover.  Fluid reservoirs in excellent condition, with no cracks or repairs.

Rear trunk contains factory jack and toolkit.  

Both lower trunk pockets are excellent with no repairs.

 A factory issue spare tire/wheel.
