This is a Factory OE left (North American driver-side) driveshaft for 4-speed Fiat X1/9 (1973-78), and all X1/9, Fiat 128 and Yugo cars with 4-Spd transaxle.
It is solid steel and splined on each end for tripode-style tranny-side bearing, and CV-joint on the hub-side.
These axles get grooves worn into them where the axle boot seal and race ride, leading to transmission fluid leakage, and new seals will not remedy the problem. Cars that set a prolonged period often rust in this area, and even if cleaned, the resulting pits will quickly tear up new seals.
