This is a Factory OE fuel tank for 1980-85 fuel injected Fiat 124 Spider and Pininfarina cars. Check out the multiple photos.
Do not be fooled, all reproduction fuel injection tanks sold by other vendors are faulty. And those vendors know it.
Unlike carbureted systems, EFI cars require an absolutely uninterrupted supply of high pressure fuel at all times for proper operation. The pump of an EFI car circulates the entire contents of a fuel tank past the injectors and back as "return" every couple of minutes. Any hiccup or interruption of flow from the tank, no matter how momentary, will be felt as a hiccup or stutter while the engine is running.
Current FI reproduction tanks claim to have "factory baffles", but they lack the critical "surge tank" or "surge well" around the pick-up draw pipe. This structure ensures that fuel surrounds the pick-up pipe at all times even during hard acceleration or corning when fuel tries to be thrown to the opposite side of the tank. Without this surge tank, fuel starvation "stutter" will happen during hard acceleration and cornering unless the tank is nearly full.
So, buyer beware. A new "FI" tank will seem to work great in the driveway, but not so great where it counts; - on the road.
Our Factory OE tank has the original surge well, fuel draw tube, and all original factory baffles.
