This 1985 Bertone X1/9 features a 1500cc Bosch FI engine, 5-Speed manual transmission, and is a non-AC version. It was a one family car, owned and meticulously cared for by an automotive enthusiast in Milwaukee WI until Midwest-Bayless acquired the car in February 2021.
Comprehensive mechanical preventative maintenances have been performed by Midwest-Bayless this year, and the car has spent the summer being displayed at various national and regional shows, including Fiat Club America "Fiat Freak Out"
This car is Ohio titled, by the owner of Midwest-Bayless and will be an individual (not dealer) transaction.

This vehicle was purchased new from Reina Imports in Milwaukee WI in 1986, and had a Fuel Injected 1981 131 Brava traded in as credit for it. The purchase included several interesting dealer options, including a just introduced Factory OEM rear spoiler, stereo, color matched hard top, side moldings, and additional rust proofing.

Flash forward 37 years and the car has a mere 6,700 miles on the odometer.

The X1/9 model was produced by Fiat from model years 1973 to 1982, and by Bertone, the car’s coachbuilder, for an additional five years, from 1983-88.

The Bertone X1/9 features many improvements over the original FIAT version, including extra headroom due to a lower seating position, 140mph speedometer, improved cabin controls and lighting, dual side view mirrors, standard issue power windows.

North America version X1/9 cars from 1981-on received Bosch electronic fuel injection and Bosch electronic ignition systems standard, while all other world market versions of the X1/9 through 1988 were fitted with a 2-barrel carburetor and points/condenser ignitions.

Bertone liked to provide clashing color combinations inside and outside of the car. Imagine red paint with blue trimmed interior. This car thankfully has complimentary interior and exterior color scheme.

The body is very straight, and does not have collision damage or rust of any sort.

A factory OEM rear spoiler and radio antenna were added by the dealer. A hole drilled in the right side spoiler tip provides clearance for the radio antenna mast when extended, and provides a great cautionary tale to measure twice and cut once, especially when installing optional equipment on new cars at a dealership.

Headlight pods are clean, all wiring original.

Floor pans and underside
were factory rust-proofed, and then Ziebart undercoated before dealer delivery. It has no evidence of rust, corrosion or collision and is 100% solid. This coating was applied not only to the body shell but also to the entire suspension, brake system, inside of wheels, and underside of engine / transaxle.

Undercar coolant tubes are undamaged and fully encapsulated in rust proofing

Engine, Fuel, Ignition, Exhaust and Cooling System:
1500cc engine SOHC engine with Bosch L-Jet fuel injection. Non-AC architecture offers a simplified engine bay and easier preventative maintenances.

The 1500cc motor runs and drives great, with no issues. All preventative maintenances required for a 37 year old vehicle have been performed.

Original expansion tank is in perfect condition. Radiator is clean and offers rock-solid temperatures. Cooling fan activates as normal.

It has the original exhaust catalyst system in place and is 50 state emissions compliant.

The engine bay is nearly perfect with original firewall insulation.
Timing belt and V-belt has been replaced, valve lash adjusted.
The fuel injection system has had all fuel lines replaced with ethanol compliant Gates hose and filter.

Ignition system is fully electronic Bosch, and has received new cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

All original engine bay decals are in place.

Electricals
Circuits are in excellent shape, with correct operation even with wipers, lights and heater fan on.

All accessories and lights work as expected. Headlights pop up and down as expected, all cabin switches work as expected.

This car did not include a digital clock, but does feature a dealer option stereo with digital clock and four speakers, which functions as expected.

Transmission / Clutch / Driveline
The 5-Spd manual transmission is in excellent condition, and shifts flawlessly up and down with no synchronizer issues. No leaks. Rear transmission mount, drive shafts, CV joints are all in good condition.
Clutch hydraulics were flushed and refilled.

Steering / Suspension / Tires / Wheels / Brakes
All ball joints, tie-rod ends, are in good condition with no issues. Wheel bearings are solid with no hum or play.
From stock, all X1/9s had a nose-high attitude in order for the vehicle to meet North America bumper height standards.

The factory front springs have been correctly modified (shortened) to give the car a level stance.

Braking system has been fully serviced with new flex hoses, pads and rotors, fluid flushed and filled. They are extremely effective in stock format.

Alloy Cromodora CD-179 "TRON" style 13x5.5 wheels with original, undamaged hub caps, and new Vredestein 165/70-13 tires.
This car drives and tracks straight, and is vibration / rattle-free.

It is excellent with no blemishes, cuts, abrasions or cracks.
