This is a quality Italian maker front hood release cable and ferrule for 5-Spd Fiat and Bertone X1/9s from 1979-88.
Solid steel cable. 36" long.
No need for a new exterior sheath.
Taper the end of the wire and thread new cable through the old sheath.
If any obstruction hinders threading new wire, just uninstall the old cable and sheath, thread the new wire through the old sheath (off car), and re-install the assembly.
Note: The cable is meant to be secured to the handle by simply folding the wire back on itself after passing through the collar/ferrule. Crimping the ferrule will >not< secure the wires properly.
